Today, Workforce Development Manager James LeBlanc attended the pre-apprenticeship graduation for The Community Hub for Opportunities In Construction Employment, (C.H.O.I.C.E.) at the Painters and Allied Trades Union Hall located at 4700 Boston Way in Lanham, MD. C.H.O.I.C.E is the organization that represents all of the Building Trade Unions in Washington DC. and their affiliated unions operate multi-employer apprenticeship programs. This class prepared Washington DC residents with little to no experience in the construction industry for entry into registered apprenticeship programs. Once a participant has graduated from the three-week program, they are placed on a priority list for entry into C.H.O.I.C.E affiliates’ apprenticeship programs. Thirteen of the graduates have enrolled in the CSC Workforce Investment Council, (WIC) program and are being given free wrap-around supportive services by CSC staff Alvis Fields and Leon Fields. All the graduates have been placed at different unions including the Plumbers, Cement Masons, Operating Engineers, Painters and Glaziers, Laborers, Electricians, Sprinkler Fitters, and Iron Workers. Lets wish them much success as they forge ahead into their new careers!
