Today we helped recruit 22-24 year old DOES SYEP participants for professional development training from 9 am to 3 pm. Our goal was to recruit only 150 participants but as a team we were able to surpass this amount and recruit 230 participants. After watching modeling Ms. Myles, who is amazing at what she does, the other Interns and I were able to quickly pick up the skills she was using to draw participants to our booth. She was very patient with us as she explained what exactly we had to do. Last year I helped with the DOES program by calling already recruited participants but this year it was challenging as we had to actually recruits students. We had to explain the program to every single person- all 230 people- before signing them up for the class. As I am quite reserved it was a new experience for me because I had to capture/ engage people’s attention before they walked out of the building. I learned a great deal about the variety of people in this community and a lot about myself from this experience. Though it was a tiring I had lots of fun and it was interesting. I’m glad that I was able to participate in this event.
Today I was required to recruit 22-24 years olds for special development training. Our goal was 150 people. This required me to engage with a lot of people passing by, and although difficult at first, I got a lot better along the way. I learned to stay focused and be a real go getter. At the end of the day we had 230 signatures, much more than we needed. The whole experience left me feeling very accomplished and helped me grow professionally.
