With moderator and producer, Dr. Sheba Holly Executive Director Penelope Griffith discuss issues on violence in the community along with mothers with sons who have been incarcerated and even lost to the system. Dealing with a topic so heavy caused an emotional roller coaster of the panels participants but it was very pleasing to see them come back to smiles after the trauma they described. The Collaborative’s own Loleata Griffin gave a moving testimony of her journey and the strength needed to overcome her loss.
“We talked about our parent support group Still Standing formerly known as Crossing the Lines. We talked about how we mothers managed to deal with the loss of a child to a senseless crime, incarceration and/or drug abuse. How becoming spiritually connected to one another by hosting parent groups with topics such as; self-care, resources in the communities, family affairs, and even fun things like line dancing to even having pot lucks.” – Said Loleata Griffin, Housing Coordinator for The Collaborative.
